Founding: PSG College of Technology, initially established as PSG Industrial Institute in 1926, was initiated by PSG and Sons Charities in Peelamedu, Coimbatore.
Engineering College: The engineering college was started in 1951 by G. R. Damodaran, who became its first principal.
Autonomous Status: The college was granted autonomous status by the University of Madras in 1978, which continued under Bharathiar University and later Anna University since 2001.
