The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Education (formerly the Ministry of Human Resource Development) of the Government of India. It was created under the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on March 24, 2011, and in the Rajya Sabha on April 30, 2012.
- Initial Classes: The academic session for 2008-2009 was conducted at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi before IIT Ropar officially began its operations from its transit campus in Rupnagar on August 1, 2009.
- Foundation and Permanent Campus: The foundation stone for the permanent campus was laid on February 24, 2009, by the then Union HRD Minister, Shri Arjun Singh. IIT Ropar transitioned to its permanent campus in June 2018, although some departments, hostels, and laboratories remained at the transit campus.

- Permanent Campus:
- The permanent campus of IIT Ropar spans 525 acres and is situated along the banks of the Satluj River, on land previously known as Birla Seed Farms. The campus is surrounded by the picturesque Sivalik Hills, enhancing its natural beauty.
- The entrance gate's architecture draws inspiration from the Indus Valley Civilization, featuring four 41-foot high, stone-carved, pyramid-like pillars, constructed in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India.
- Facilities:

- Modern Laboratories: Well-equipped for practical and experimental work.
- Research Centers: Focused on various engineering and technological advancements.

- Transition to Permanent Campus:
- The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, along with the library, was the first to fully transition to the permanent campus in July 2018, followed by the administration on June 17, 2018. By June 2019, all administrative offices and the Departments of Electrical, Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering had relocated.

BTech Admission Process 2024

Step 3: Register for JoSAA Counseling
- Once candidates receive their JEE Advanced results, they need to register for JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling and fill in their preferred choices for colleges and courses.
Step 4: Seat Allotment
- JoSAA conducts the seat allotment based on the choices filled and the candidates' ranks in the JEE Advanced exam.
Step 5: Report to Allotted Colleges
- Finally, candidates must report to the college they have been allotted, where they will need to pay the admission fee to confirm their admission.
