The Tmt. Kannammal Educational Trust, founded in 1985, has been dedicated to bringing about transformative change through education. The Trust's first initiative, Thai Moogambigai Polytechnic College, laid the foundation for a series of educational institutions that have shaped the landscape of higher education. Within three years, the Trust expanded by establishing Dr. M.G.R. Engineering College in 1988, followed by Thai Moogambigai Dental College in 1991. In recognition of their academic excellence and growth, both institutions were granted Deemed University status in 2003, forming the Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
In line with University’s commitment to innovation, the University has been granted UGC approval to offer online programs starting with the January 2021 batch, further expanding access to quality education.
